Becoming a Camillian
About the Community |
|
The Order of St. Camillus has an action-filled apostolate; it is a demanding call to action on some of the most challenging fronts of society. The Order is now worldwide and Camillian brothers and priests can now be found in over 35 countries on five continents. Our mission, however, remains the same. We continue to take the fourth vow, as Camillus and his early followers did, of service to the sick, and we dedicate our lives to the sick, the dying, the poor, the suffering and the elderly.
ORDER
OF ST. CAMILLUS IN
Our Independent Retirement Community, Assisted Living and Health Center in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin: Compassionate Care for the Generations. In a suburb of Milwaukee, the sprawling St Camillus Campus includes a distinctive independent living community comprising over 300 actively independent older adults over the age of 62; an 80+ unit assisted living community; a specialized assisted living community for individuals with early to mid-stage dementia; an over 200 bed licensed skilled nursing facility providing short-term rehabilitation and long-term care as well as specially staffed and designed units for persons with advanced Alzheimers disease or dementia; a specialized, palliative care wing for those near the end of life and supportive services for their loved ones; a home health and outreach agency which offers a complete range of in-home healthcare and support services including high tech nursing, therapies, and home health aide services; and a rehabilitation department and therapy program additionally offering a Safe Home Program and Living Fit, fitness program for seniors. Diverse Ministries: In keeping with the desire of our founder, the activities of some of our brothers and priests take them outside of our own institutions. They may be found reflecting Christs love for the sick in general or specialized hospitals, nursing homes, parishes, state institutions, social service agencies, private homes, wherever they are needed to serve. They function as hospital chaplains, nurses, physicians, technicians, therapists, counselors, Clinical Pastoral Education supervisors and in a variety of vital and necessary supportive services within the healthcare field from ground and plant maintenance, to facility management, to dietary and nutrition, to physical and recreational therapy. They serve on Ethics Committees; they provide sacramental and liturgical services; they hold administrative positions. Wherever they can accompany and serve the sick, the marginalized, the abandoned, the elderly, and their families on their journey of suffering, there the Camillians can be found. There is much to be done. There is a place for you.
Today the Order of St. Camillus serves in over 35 countries with a total global membership of about 1140 brothers, priests and novices. In the early days, Camillians battled the plague, famine, and pestilence. In the new millennium, issues include AIDS, addictions, the growing field of geriatric care and healthcare to the homeless. a hundred arms to aid these poor ones calling for help?” |
