Priest from the Order of St. Camillus
is Named A Bishop in Burkina faso in west africa!

 
 

The First-ever ‘Camillian’ Bishop was announced February 11th by the Holy Father.  He is Fr. Prosper Kontiebo, M.I., Vice Provincial of the Burkina Faso Province (in the nation of Burkina Faso in West Africa).

 “On behalf of all the members of the Order, I express my gratitude to the Holy Father for having elevated a Camillian Religious to the dignity of Episcopal Office – wrote the Superior General of the Order, P. Renato Salvatore in Rome-.  “I am very happy also that Fr Prosper will offer a precious service to the Church and great resources from his spirituality, humanity and specifically his Camillian charisma. All those who have had the joy of knowing him, today are very proud and participate with joy, praising the Lord to continue to keep watch over the Vice-province of Burkina Faso of which our brother was a safe and necessary guide. I think it is very significant that the announcement was made this day so 'Camillian': World Day of the Sick and the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. "

The soon-to-be Bishop, Fr. Kontiebo, will lead a brand new diocese of Tenkodogo, in Burkina Faso.

The International Order of St. Camillus, a group of about 1,100 brothers and priests worldwide, was founded in the late 1500’s by St. Camillus de Lellis, Universal Patron of the sick, the health professions and hospitals.  The Order of the Ministers of the Infirmed (M.I.) has always been a point of reference for the needy and for those who suffer. Today, it is present in 35 Countries.  The Camillians are preparing to celebrate the fourth Centenary of the death of St. Camillus in 2014.

The Order of St. Camillus provides independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation services, home health care, supportive home services, care management and Hospice to seniors in the Greater Milwaukee area.  The Order of St. Camillus Foundation, Inc. raises money to support those services and provide charity care to those in financial need.  St. Camillus employs about 500 people at its Wauwatosa location.
